Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start dancing?

We offer toddler & me classes starting as young as 14 months old! Our performance class program starts at age 3

CSOD

What styles of dance do you offer?

We offer so many fun styles of dance including: ballet, tap, jazz, Irish step, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, and tumbling. There’s a class for everyone!

CSOD

Can I come watch a class? Can my child try a class before we register?

We ALWAYS offer free trial classes so you can see what class is like before you commit to ongoing classes. It is important to us that you feel comfortable in out studio. We have TVs in the lobby so you can observe your child dance in their class.

CSOD

what should I do if the class that works best for my family is full?

You can ask to be put on our waitlist and you can also try another class while you wait to see if a spot in your first choice class opens up.

CSOD

What does my child need to wear to class?

Your child should wear comfortable, form fitted clothing. In ballet, your child should wear a leotard/tights. Please no jeans or street shoes in the classrooms.

CSOD

Why CSOD?

We truly care about our dancers and feel that every single child/teen who walks through our doors is special and deserves the best experience possible. Not only do we love challenging our students with new and updated choreography and skills, we love building a dance community where each student can thrive and feel their best. We aim to train dancers physically and build them up emotionally. Dance is so much more than just the moves, it’s about the feeling of worth and self confidence that’s built along the way.

CSOD

Will my child get to perform on stage?

Yes! Our performance classes dance in our holiday show in December and also at our spring recital in June. They can also participate in 2 parades each year if they would like. You can usually find our Irish step dancers performing for the community for St Patrick’s day as well.

Our competition team performs in 5 competitions per year along with outside performances within the community and recitals.

CSOD

Why do I have to purchase recital tickets?

We want your dancer's day to be as special as possible with a professional performing experience. The cost of your ticket includes the time of the CSOD teachers and staff, the rental of a beautiful professional performance space, backstage and technical help (so you can enjoy the show!), props/set/scenery, beautiful programs, and more! We keep our ticket prices competitive and give options for each budget.

CSOD

Why is it reserved seating?

We try to make recital day as much fun with as least stress as possible. Reserved seating lets you feel comfortable showing up at a reasonable time knowing your family and friends will be sitting together. Showing up 2 hours before the show begins and standing waiting to enter the theatre and then trying to save seats for your family doesn't sound fun or stress free!

CSOD

When does registration start?

We accept dancers all year long, but we start registrations in June for our performance and competition classes beginning in September and in February for our summer programs.

CSOD

What benefits does dance have for my child?

Dancing involves concentration, and stamina, meaning when you dance, you switch off from the stresses of everyday life. Dance can stress and anxiety. Dancing exercises your body physically and in doing so it tests your balance, muscle strength, and coordination. Dance also builds a sense of teamwork, commitment and increases self esteem.

CSOD

How long are the classes?

Our toddler, 3/4 yr old and 5/6 yr old combo classes are 45 min each. Our level 1-3 performance classes are 50 minutes and our competition classes are 55-60 minutes.

CSOD

What happens if my class is cancelled?

If the circumstances are in our control we will make every effort to find a substitute instructor. If classes are cancelled due to CSOD reasons we will offer a make up class. If the cancellation is weather related, there will not be a makeup class offered. However, you may make up in another class of the same level within 4 weeks of your missed/cancelled class.

CSOD

Do You have a winter weather policy?
